 20.  Q:  How do Turffalo brand plugs compare with the cost of sod?

11.  Q: Can Turffalo brand grass receive too much water?

A:  During the establishment phase, it is important for quick coverage that Turffalo grass does not receive excessive water.  Other than that, we have not seen any problems with excessive water, though there may be problems in regions that receive over 60 inches per year.

12. Q: Will extra water or fertilizer help my Turffalo brand plugs cover even faster?

A:  Extra water will not help Turffalo lawns establish any faster, and will likely result in slower coverage.  A well-rounded and high-nitrogen fertilizer, on the other hand, can often help speed coverage by improving the soil.

13.  Q: Is the pricing better if I purchase directly from Turffalo instead of through a distributor?

A:  Pricing of flats is the same whether purchased from a distributor or directly from Turffalo.

14.  Q: Is there any way to reduce the cost of Turffalo brand plugs if I'm installing a very large area?

A:  The price per flat is reduced when purchasing 14 or more flats.  Plus, the entire project cost is variable by changing the spacing that the plugs are planted.  Higher profile areas may be planted closer to cover more quickly, while lower profile areas may be planted further apart to reduce costs.

15. Q: Is Turffalo brand grass available in seed or sod?

A:  Turffalo brand grass is extremely difficult to establish from seed, so we do not consider that an option for propagation.  Both plugs and sod are a very viable method for installing Turffalo grass.  Currently only plugs are available and we expect for sod to be available in the near future.

16. Q: When is the best time to plant Turffalo brand grass?

A:  The best time to plant Turffalo brand grass in your area is after last normal freeze date in the spring up until 30 days before first normal freeze date in the fall.  Though the plugs can be planted at other times, the quickest coverage will be when the soil temperature warms up above 70° F - the hotter the better."

17.  Q:  Will Turffalo brand grasses grow well in my area?

A:  Please see the regional growing maps here. Note that Turffalo grasses also grow well in many areas outside those indicated on the maps. Testing a small amount of grass is advisable in an area outside what is indicated.

20.  Q:  How do Turffalo brand plugs compare with the cost of sod?

A:  Tech Turf plugs at 12" spacing are about the same as the cost per sq ft as sod and at 17" spacing are half the cost per sq ft as sod.  The cost of Shadow Turf plugs are more than sod, but will certainly grow in the shade where virtually nothing else will.
